City officials from Savannah, Georgia, and Accra, Ghana, are set to sign a partnership agreement in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. The signing ceremony will involve key dignitaries from both cities, including the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, and the Mayor of Savannah, Van R. Johnson II.
“This incredible agreement is years in the making, and we are excited to finally partner with our friends in Accra, Ghana,” Mayor Van R. Johnson II expressed.
The partnership between Accra and Savannah aims to promote a sustainable, inclusive, and diverse future through the exchange of information and cooperation in various sectors. The agreement outlines priorities such as establishing friendly relations and improving knowledge between citizens of the two regions.
The Greater Savannah Ghana Alliance, formed to facilitate this partnership, seeks to enhance communication, relationships, and community collaboration between Savannah and Ghana. The milestone signifies two decades of exploration and support, with contributions from community stakeholders and the World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav).
While the signing ceremony will be closed to the general public, it will be broadcast on the City of Savannah’s social media platforms. Details on how media can attend and participate will be shared in a media advisory on Tuesday.
